Dad Central is excited to announce a new partnership!

We have teamed up with Dove Men+Care to promote involved fatherhood across Canada and provide resources and workshops that benefit dads and organizations that serve dads.

The role of a new dad has evolved, but there’s still a long way to go. Although the benefits of involved fathers are well researched, many dads are not aware of the positive impact they can have – on themselves, as well as their family. Involved fathers contribute to the healthy development of children’s mental, emotional, and social development and men care deeply about being involved caregivers and would go to great lengths to have the opportunity. While dads feel strongly about being active caretakers to their children, usage of paternity leave in Canada remains low, indicating a clear conflict between fathers’ desire to care and the opportunities that they have to do so. From national and workplace policy, through to social expectations and restrictive male stereotypes, dads across the world come up against barriers to care in a number of ways.

Dads are a vital part of a child’s upbringing. Dove Men+Care research has shown the many benefits to paternity leave, from increasing a dad’s confidence as a caregiver to improving the parent’s relationships. Recently, a new legislation was passed, offering fathers five weeks of paternity leave. While the new policy in Canada is a great step, adoption is low.

By partnering together, Dad Central and Dove Men+Care hope to bring positive change to the landscape of fatherhood in Canada, including improving the number of dads who embrace paternity leave and involved fatherhood.

To kick off the partnership we’re offering our first live virtual event on April 7th called How Dads Can Manage The Current Realities.

The experience for families has changed dramatically over the past few weeks. And it has left many dads wondering how to take care of their responsibilities while confined to the house.

How Dads Can Manage the Current Realities is a free, live and interactive event hosted by Dad Central Ontario and Dove Men+Care. This webinar will feature fatherhood expert, Dr. Greg Fabiano, who will share five key ways dads can manage the current challenges.

This event happens on April 7 at 12 p.m. EDT. Register below. There is limited capacity, so register now to save your spot.

If you ask most parents the question today: Do you feel overwhelmed trying to work from home, manage your kids, and plan for the uncertainties ahead? Chances are the answer is a resounding, YES!

With recent announcements of school closing for another month, dads are probably asking themselves questions like:

  • How do I handle work priorities and deadlines with kids home?
  • How do I manage the added stress the pandemic has put on the family?
  • How do I maintain composure when dealing with uncertainties at home?
  • What do I need to do to make the best of this situation?

If you find yourself asking the above questions during this uncertain time, then this free, virtual and interactive event will help. The interactive conversation that includes a Q & A period will share key tips and strategies to help dads structure their day and manage the demands so they can show up at their best.

About Dad Central

Dad Central has been advocating for, building resources, and promoting the value of involved fatherhood in Canada for over 20 years. In the process, our work has helped family service organizations, public health agencies, and pre / post natal care units embrace and engage dads in the parenting journey. The results continue to help dads be more present and involved in their kid’s daily lives, and positively impact the healthy development of children.

About Dove Men+Care

Dove Men+Care is taking action to make paternity leave an option for every dad. It is our continued belief that care is the best of a man, because when men care for themselves and others, there is a positive impact on them and society. That’s why Dove Men+Care is championing paternity leave globally. We want to give men greater opportunities and access to care, and the freedom to choose the best way to do so for themselves and those around them. So that every dad gets the chance to care for the people who matter most.

The Dad Central Dove Men+Care partnership has ambitions to:

  • Update fatherhood resources that educate dads on topics important to them (i.e. paternity leave, childcare, mental health, relationships, etc.)
  • Distribute resources to dads directly and organizations that work with Dads via workshops, webinars and conferences
  • Create opportunities for dads to connect directly with each other to share the unique experience that comes with being a dad

Dads are so important in the lives of their children. Together, Dad Central and Dove Men+Care are working to see dads supported in their roles while positively impacting the lives of children everywhere.
