How Dads Can Raise Resilient Kids

How Dads Can Raise Resilient Kids is a free, live and interactive event hosted by Dad Central Ontario. This event features a panel of experts who share professional insights and personal stories to help family service professionals and dads address the challenges of mental and emotional well-being.

The Mental Health Commission of Canada estimates that 1.2 million children and youth in Canada struggle with mental wellness but only 20% receive effective treatment.

Additionally, a 2019 Movember study found that 70% of new dads experienced more stress in the first 12 months of becoming a father and the majority of dads feel more pressure today to be good fathers.

The normal outlets that would support mental health have also been dramatically reduced due to the pandemic. With the current landscape we’re facing, you might be wondering what we, as dads, can do to recognize the signs of mental wellness and help our children through the challenges.

You might also have questions like:

  • If you work with families, how can you support dads through this time?
  • If you’re a dad and your normal supports are gone, what can you do?
  • How important is it to get mental health support?
  • How do positive mental health strategies benefit families and children?

This free discussion will give you answers.

How Dads Can Raise Resilient Kids discusses methods to help us manage the stress and pressure we feel as dads. We go over healthy strategies to improve our mental wellness and how to support our kids in developing their own mental wellness strategies.

Our children look up to us and model our behaviour. By looking within ourselves, showing vulnerability and starting the discussion on mental wellness, we can set the example our children need.
